ESCO Announces TWACS(R) System Acceptance at PPL Electric Utilities

ST. LOUIS, April 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESCO Technologies Inc. (NYSE: ESE) announced today that PPL Electric Utilities formally accepted DCSI's TWACS(R) Advanced Metering System earlier this month. This was the culmination of a three-year, system-wide deployment of approximately 1.3 million customer endpoints. The acceptance test was an exhaustive verification of the system performance with more than 160 individual tests completed.

"The DCSI system has met and exceeded our expectations in many ways," said PPL Project Director Bernie Bujnowski. "It was a highly successful project - on time, on budget, and is meeting the requirements of the business case. This tool, as expected, has virtually eliminated estimated bills by automating the meter-reading process and has improved other business processes through the ability to constantly communicate with the meter. What was unexpected is how the business embraced the tool and applied it in new and creative applications. Two examples of unexpected benefits are the system use in assessing power restoration after major outages caused by storms and using detailed data from the system to address and resolve customer billing concerns. I am confident that we will continue to find additional uses for the system in the future."

Vic Richey, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ESCO, commented, "The successful deployment of DCSI's TWACS system at PPL Electric Utilities is a milestone for our company. We believe the success of this program validates the business case for large-scale, advanced-metering programs utilizing DCSI's two-way, fixed-network system. This program confirmed that DCSI's TWACS power line solution can reliably deliver advanced metering data, including interval data, from well over a million electric meters. This performance will ensure that DCSI continues to play a pivotal role among utilities that seek proven solutions for improving customer satisfaction and initiating Demand Response programs. We look forward to working with additional customers on similar projects."
